It all started with a business trip.
The story goes that in the early 20th century a Cálem representative travelled to the Netherlands on a business trip.
Like any true born Portuguese, he would not return empty handed.
He brought with him a painting depicting three old men, each holding a glass of Port.
Doesn’t sleep at night wondering if he, with his green eyes, takes after his mother’s father or his father’s mother. But more than anything else, he searches for the truth of things and believes that, by reflecting upon them, he will surely find it.
His friends describe him as an over thinker and observer, even if full of doubts and concerns…

His truth is universal and he dislikes discussing things. He might let you have an opinion, but he will destroy it with seditious irony.

He takes the edge of all and every situation with a “let’s toast to that”. He doesn’t waste time with talking, he seeks only pleasure. A hedonist by nature, an unbeliever who seeks nothing but wordly pleasures.
That pal who doesn’t contradict you, who always supports you and who is always missed by everyone.
Today the painting of the three Velhotes is an icon, part of the collective memory of Cálem consumers. Printed on millions of bottles shipped from our lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia every year and destined for the tables of those Port lovers around the world who really appreciate Portugal’s heritage.
